Christopher Cullen was found guilty on Tuesday of murdering Victoria Comrie Cullen, from Bangor in Northern Ireland, in the grounds of a Sydney fishing club.
The 39-year-old suffered 18 stab wounds and her throat had been cut.
The video, filmed on a mobile phone on 22 January 2014, shows the 51-year-old wrapped in a foil blanket with a swollen face and eyes.
A police officer can be heard asking him: "Do you understand you are under arrest for the murder of your wife?"
"Yes," he replies.
"Do you understand you don't have to say or do anything if you don't want to?"
"Yes."
Cullen, who had stab wounds and a punctured lung which caused his face to swell, tells officers about the row he had with his wife and how he "lost control" after she talked to him "about her sex life".
"She stabbed me, I stabbed her," he says.
The father-of-three claimed he had acted in self-defence and had been provoked into attacking her.
But the court heard the couple had split up months earlier and that he had threatened to kill her after accusing her of having an affair.
Cullen is due to be sentenced next week.
