Police have launched a search for a missing mum after a newborn baby was found in the disabled toilet of an amusement arcade.
Emergency crews were called to Silcock's Amusement Arcade in Southport, Merseyside, at around 6.50pm this evening after staff found the baby girl in the toilets.
The girl was taken to nearby Ormskirk Hospital and is currently being cared for by medics - who have named her April.
A search has now been launched to find April's mum, who may need urgent medical help as it appears she gave birth alone in the toilets.
Detective Inspector Mike Dalton made a direct plea to April's mum to come forward and receive the help she needs.
He said: "Our primary concern is for the health of the girl's mother. She is not in any trouble.
"I would urge April's mother to urgently come forward or at least seek treatment, as she could suffer medical complications which are potentially very dangerous.
"Please make contact with Ormskirk Hospital as soon as possible, if you are outside the area please get in touch with a medical professional. In an emergency always call 999.
"You are not in trouble, we need to get you back together with your daughter."
The arcade remains sealed off by police and eye-witnesses described seeing an ambulance and three police vehicles outside the premises, near the town's seafront.
Anyone with any information or who may have seen anything suspicious should call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 3835 or on 999.
