Tropical Air Helps UK Temperatures Top 22C

The mercury has reached highs of 22.6C (72.6F) as parts of Britain enjoy warm weather amid a mass of tropical air.
The Met Office said the hottest temperature so far was recorded in Gravesend, Kent.

Writtle in Essex reported 22.5C, while London enjoyed 22.3C.
However, a severe weather warning for rain has been issued in southwest Scotland, where a band of rain will move east overnight.
The Met Office said an active cold front moving east across Scotland could result in 20-40mm of rain within 12 hours, and possibly as much as 50mm in some parts.
Eastern Dumfries and Galloway will see the heaviest rain across the high ground.
The Met Office said Tuesday would be windy in the north with scattered blustery showers but would be mainly dry in the south with some warm sunshine.
Wednesday is predicted to be largely fine and less windy, but it is expected to be increasingly unsettled on Thursday.
The average maximum temperature for the UK in May is 14.7C (58.5F), while in England it is 16C (60.8F), according to the Met Office.
Last month saw the sunniest April on record.
Provisional figures showed the country enjoyed an average of 212 hours of sunshine, making it the sunniest April since the amount of sun was first recorded in 1929.
In the process it beat April 1942's previous record by seven hours.
The highest temperature of the year so far was 25.1C (77.2F) in Faversham, Kent, in April.
