A schoolgirl almost missed getting onto the Germanwings Flight 4U 9525 - but WAS on board thanks to a heartbreaking act of kindness.
The unnamed German teenager, who was one of 16 youngsters on an exchange trip, had accidentally left her passport in the bedroom of her host family.
She only realised her mistake when she arrived at a train station to travel to the airport.
The girl didn't want to hold the rest of the group and so her kindhearted host family took her to the airport separately to ensure she didn't miss the flight.
That act of kindness cost the girl her life.
Spanish pupil Anna Garcia, said: “One of the German girls left a bag with all her travel documents inside at her host family’s home.
“So they didn’t hold the rest of the group up, the family took her to the airport and she was able to board the plane.”
The exchange students, all aged 15 or 16, were among 150 to perish and had been on a nine day trip to Spain with two of their teachers.
The youngsters were pupils at the English-speaking Joseph-Koenig-Gymnasium school in Haltern-am-See, near Duesseldorf.
Devastated friends and relatives of the victims took to social media sites to express their sadness at their death and pay tributes.
They were all Spanish language students at the school.
The town’s Mayor Bodo Klimpe said: “Parents came to the school when no mobile telephone contact could be made expecting the worst.
“Initially I would like to say that the town is deeply affected and saddened.
“The state of shock that is palpable everywhere, that is pretty much the worst that anyone could imagine.
“On the boarding list of the plane which crashed there are 16 students from our school and there are two teachers.
